My neighbour, and good friend, is going for a hysterectomy. She's only 29 years old and is terrified. She's getting it done because of endometriosis, it's her last option to be pain free.
Does anyone have experiences with hysterectomies at such a young age? Will she be getting menopause after the surgery?
Any help or info much appreciated. |

I had IIIc borderline ovarian cancer in my early 20s that spread to my other ovary and uterus so I had to get them out and I went into menopause. No ovaries = no estrogen = menopause.
If you neighbour is having her ovaries out, she'll go into menopause, if not, she'll still be making estrogen so no menopause.
My sister had a hysterectomy because of endometriosis, she says it was the best thing she's ever done. Recovered quickly too. |

i had a radical hysterectomy at 41 due to ovarain cancer, the surgery was ok but the menopause symptoms were horrible
r u sure ur friend has no other options? 29 seems very young to be having a hysterectomy...especially for endometriosis. there r some good treatments out there that don't involve hysterectomy- http://www.endometriosistreatment.org/html/reprints1.html outlines an effective treatment and there r plenty of others too |
